From December 3 to 7, the 11th National Conference on Fluid Mechanics, powered by the Fluid Mechanics Panel of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM) was held in SUSTech, with SUSTech Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) as the organizer. The conference was sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), with SUSTech former president Shiyi CHEN as the chairman of the conference. Over 1100 experts and scholars from universities and research institutes attended the meeting.
Shiyi CHEN hosted the opening ceremony. Director of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission Yongsheng LIANG, SUSTech Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG, Deputy Director of Department of Mathematical & Physical Science of NSFC Qingguo MENG, Vice President of CSTAM Guowei HE, and Director of Fluid Mechanics Panel of CSTAM Jifu ZHOU gave speeches respectively.
Shiyi CHEN said that NCFM aims to provide an academic exchange platform for researchers in the field of fluid mechanics. More than 870 abstracts and nearly 300 full-text reports were received at the conference, reaching a new record high. He expressed his hope that all the participants have in-depth discussions and contribute to the development of fluid mechanics.
Yongsheng LIANG congratulated the opening of the conference and said that he would continue to strengthen the guidance and support for scientific research of colleges and universities, deepen the “supply-side structural reform”, and make industry-based technological progress.
Dongxiao ZHANG said that the meeting, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of SUSTech and the 5th anniversary of the MAE, is of great significance to the research of fluid mechanics and the construction of mechanics discipline in the University. He expressed his hope that SUSTech takes this opportunity to promote the new development of related disciplines.
14 sub-forums were set with a focus on turbulence and stability, multiphase flow, non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, hydrodynamics, high-temperature gas dynamics, percolation mechanics, industrial fluid dynamics, experimental fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, micro nanoscale flow, electromagnetic fluid dynamics, application of machine learning in fluid mechanics, natural flow, and heat dissipation fluid machinery. At the conference, the Fluid Mechanics Panel of CSTAM also organized the review of excellent papers of young scholars.?
National Conference on Fluid Mechanics was first held in Shanghai in 1963, and then successively held in Wuxi, Changsha, Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, Lanzhou, Nanjing, and Hangzhou. In recent years, the conference is held every two years, which is one of the authoritative conferences in the field of fluid mechanics.
