On August 16, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed a delegation from the National Urban Sculpture Association of China (NUSAC). NUSAC External Liaison Department Director Feng SHI and Creative Department Deputy Director Jike SU led the NUSAC group. They met with SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI, Communications & Public Relations Director Ling ZHANG, and College of Engineering Dean Zhenghe XU.
The delegation visited the 3D campus construction sand table, the Lynn Library, the College of Engineering, the SUSTech Center, and the Student Dormitories as part of a campus tour. The visit was focused on developing the cultural landscape of SUSTech.
At a meeting between the two groups, SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI provided a briefing about SUSTech’s cultural development. 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the founding of SUSTech, along with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Shenzhen.
SUSTech is looking to promote more public art through the integration of art and technology. SUSTech is also looking to enhance its environmental aesthetics education while promoting campus culture. The educational impact would further enhance the construction of a world-class high-level research university. It is also hoped that a cooperative relationship between both institutions would provide opportunities for artistic innovation that would augment SUSTech’s holistic approach to education.
NUSAC External Liaison Department Director Feng SHI expressed his appreciation for SUSTech’s unique campus environment. He spoke about the cultural connotations of sculptural works, focusing on integration & coordination between sculpture, environment, and culture.
NUSAC is planning to open the “University Campus Sculpture Invitation Exhibition,” in November, with SUSTech as the tentative host. It aims to promote cultural innovation within the tertiary education sector in China and improve aesthetics education.
Communications & Public Relations Director Ling ZHANG spoke about where new pieces of art will go on campus, as well as the “University Campus Sculpture Invitation Exhibition.” Office of Campus Planning landscape architect Zhenzhong DU then spoke about the history of the campus and its environmental campus planning.
