In April 2015, one could easily sense the tense atmosphere in the meeting room of HUAWEI. A few young people with postgraduate degree were voicing their opinions about tourism. But the interviewer was silent. It was a group interview of HUAWEI. When the other interviewees expressed their ideas bravely, Huang Yangshun was silent because he thought the topic was not suitable for him. He is the sole undergraduate student of all those interviewees. Luckily, the interviewer noticed the young man obsessed in his thinking, “What do you want to say, Huang Yangshun?” At last, he start to talk, but not about the topic. Instead, he commented on the ideas of the other interviewees in a logic and clear way. His comments received recognition from the interviewer.

Nicknamed as Pharmacist Huang, the graduate enrolled in SUSTech in 2012 is known for his social networking ability in SUSTech. With outward personality, he once worked as the Director of Publicity Department in SUSTech Shu Ren Academy Student Union. Before his graduation, Huang Yangshun, instead of studying overseas as most of his classmates do, chooses to find a job. After getting the opportunity to work as an intern in HUAWEI, he engaged in 2-month internship in the summer holiday of 2015. After his internship, he received an offer from HUAWEI Honor (world-famous high-tech company) for a post of marketing engineer. Now Huang Yangshun has been back to SUSTech to finish his studies.

Friend?helps?him?take?the?first?step
When recalling his 4 years in SUSTech, Huang Yangshun mentioned 2 most unforgettable moments representing life transition. The first moment happened when Shu Ren Academy was just established. Election into the Academy Student Union brought great change to his campus life. Before this, though he was a little bit famous in SUSTech for his active personality, he also hoped to concentrate on study as most freshmen did. As a result, he didn’t show any interest in student activities. “A girl student younger than I am took me to compete for Publicity Personnel in the Student Union”, said Huang. He regretted registering for the position because he thought the management work might be time-consuming. He even went to the teacher, trying to forsake the election. And he wore slippers when giving the campaign speech on the podium. However, when saying, “Hello, everyone. My name is Huang Yangshun and my nickname is Pharmacist Huang”. All the students wowed, representing his success in the election.?
In his second transition, Huang Yangshun mentioned his roommate Zhang Yue, saying he values their friendship very much. “Our friendship is destined. We are in the same class, in which he is the monitor and I am the Publicity Personnel. Later on, we start to work in the Academy Student Union, in which he is the Chairman and I am the Publicity Director. And we also live in the same dormitory”, said Huang frankly. In Year 3 in the university, he once didn’t know what to do in the future, wondering whether or not to prepare for entrance exam for postgraduate. Zhang Yue, who has many sources of info, gave him a HUAWEI advertisement recruiting interns and asked him to make a try. With his help, Huang identified the employment path suitable for him.
Start College?life?and?understand?himself
On the campus, the most important course is actually knowing oneself. Each person has his/her unique personality. But not everyone knows where to go when staying in an extensive environment. One has limitless attempts in the university, most of which are probably not meaningful. But they often decide what kind of person you are. The academy system in SUSTech ensures students can think freely. Its open and harmonious atmosphere also encourages the students to get on well with others. The academy provides a platform for students to communicate with others so that they understand themselves by sharing ideas.?

In addition to the academy system, the tutorship system in SUSTech and the special education model featuring “general education for all students before Year 3 on campus” also give students enough space to understand themselves. The life & major tutorship gives students help and guidance in life and study. The interdisciplinary teaching model also helps cultivate the students’ ability in thinking from all perspectives while helping them know what they can do and what they cannot.?
Life of Huang Yangshun is really amazing in the 4 years in SUSTech, which are full of attempts and transitions. Probably these attempts are trivial, but they are sufficient to give him proper direction. So when asked what to say to younger students in SUSTech, he just said, “Why not making a try?”
